monday meetings

weekly meetings: making a "self paced, self placed" plan

MMM 20 April

How ‘bout that Colorado spring, eh? As the weather shifts, and shifts, and shifts, find some moments to get outside and bask in fresh air. Yes, stay safe and distanced, but don’t distance yourself from the sun when it appears! And while you are inside, look up #songsofcomfort on Instagram. Yo-Yo Ma (world famous cellist) started sharing music with that hashtag, and now there are several thousand videos of amateur and professional musicians sharing a little music with the world. It’s a great way to unwind!

You’ll see in the module section that teachers are offering new modules again this week. We want to continue keeping classes fresh, but please know that you can still focus on wrapping up a module you started in the last couple weeks if you aren’t done yet. It’s important to wrap up those loose ends while the info is still fresh.
  • Appreciations!
    • Megan - Community Service participation
    • Hannah - taking initiative with Senior English
    • Cassidy - participating in Mindfulness activities
    • Jared and Grace - great presentations for English

    • Fill out this Remote Learning Contract with your plan for this week
    • Check in with your advisor every day
    • Aim to work on two modules each week - use this week as a make-up week if needed. If you are caught up, do one of the modules we have offered the past couple weeks (see below)
    • Free meals
      • Breakfast/lunch through school district - pick up in front of Avery Parsons between 11:00 and 1:
      • Supper Support: dinner through community restaurants - contact us if you have a need
    • Graduation prep meeting for families
      • If you are a parent or guardian of one of our graduating seniors, look out for an invite (we will e-mail you) to our prep meeting! It will be this Thursday at 1:00. If you cannot make the live meeting, we will send out notes afterwards
    • CCHS remote learning: how does this time connect with long-term learning?
      • All learning at CCHS contributes towards earning a diploma - and credits are earned by completing work. During this time of remote learning, grades aren’t frozen, nor is work stalled. We are continuing to offer opportunities to learn and complete credit at the same rate as when we are in the building. In this way, remote learning doesn’t need to be that different from working in the building!
      • If students do not complete work while we are in remote learning mode, they are not penalized, but it slows down their rate of credit completion and could add more of a crunch to their graduation timeline. We are working with students who are close to graduation to problem solve completing credits so they aren’t impacted in the long term
      • Prioritize wrapping up open credits in the next month - advisors will be reaching out with some suggested goals

 Community Service
  • Write a letter to Sunrise Manor to let our grandparents know we are thinking of them. Email the letter to [email protected], and she will send them to Sunrise Manor.
  • Look through the causes at Dosomething.org and pick your own community service idea. Email Jeannette the details so she can keep track of your hours.
  • New State of Mind - Host a video chat with your friends to check in on how they are doing. Email Jeannette a screenshot for your hours.
  • Everyday Superheroes - Make a card celebrating someone who does super things in your community. Send to Jeannette to distribute.
  • Shower Songs - Make a 5 minute playlist to help friends take shorter showers in an effort to conserve a natural resource. Email Jeannette your playlist.
  • (Not) The Same Old Story - One-on-one interactions with older people have been shown to fight isolation and cheer them up. Write the beginning of a story and mail it to a senior who lives far away. Ask them to continue the story and send it back to you to finish.  Email to Jeannette first to pass on to our seniors.
  • Make face masks for your family or community.  There are several sew or no sew patterns online.  Send Jeannette a picture for credit.
  • NEW options:
    • Would You Rather - Help friends take control of their personal finances.
    • Don't Be a Sucker - Unplug unused electronics to save energy and money.
    • Make dog toys out of old  t-shirts - Make dog toys to donate to Ark Valley Humane Society. Communicate with Jeannette to make arrangements for her to pick them up and deliver them.  There are several different ideas to make dog toys from items you have around the house, just Google “how to make dog toys” for more options.

    What are MMMM?
