Welcome back! We hope you had a relaxing enjoyable spring break. Here comes the home stretch! Stay engaged and work one piece at a time. Connect with your advisor as needed to follow up from your conference and to set goals for the remainder of the school year so you finish on a strong note.

Seniors, our next meeting is next Monday, April 5, during Practicum. We will talk more about end of year celebrations and support you need. Senior work is due in six weeks! Make each day count.

General announcements
  • Appreciations!
    • Natalie- Gratitude for the road trip module, Sam Durbin as inspiration, Mason Foreman, Kaileb, Danny for teaching Natalie how to do fractions
    • Christine- All the students who work on top of going to school
    • Jeanette- Staff & students for continuing community service
    • Robiny- Everyone’s safety and health
  • Other announcements
    • Bathroom cleanliness: please be respectful - don’t throw paper towels on the floor or pee on the floor, don’t put snot on the walls (hard to believe we need to say that, but it apparently needs to be said!)
    • Language and aggressiveness: school can be stressful, but don’t take it out on each other or on the staff. Take a break if you are getting elevated.
    • Neighbors have noticed litter from CCHS students on their properties - I have found lunch trash, milk cartons, and wrappers from the snack basket the week before break. Littering reflects poorly on the reputation of the school as a whole, which burns bridges we are trying to build with the community. Please represent CCHS well!
    • The kitchen is still closed; we are still waiting on ideas from students to keep it orderly
  • Schedule notes
    • Check is this Friday (check 14)
    • Next week (April 5 -9): test prep
      • 9th - 11th grade students will cycle through each subject to refresh critical thinking skills to help with tests
      • 12th grade students will also cycle through each room, but will use the time to continue working on senior assignments
    • Following week (April 12 - 16): testing week
      • Each day will be a Friday schedule
        • Testing and modules in the morning
        • Optional activities in the afternoon to earn points towards credits

We are looking forward to our student-led conferences! Students, you each have made progress this year - some wins have been big, some have been little, but they are all wins. It can be challenging to talk about ourselves (and especially to celebrate ourselves), but it is so important to recognize the good.

You’ll see the current standings for our March advisory competition below (based on logins). Keep those logins coming! It’s an expectation anyway, so it isn’t an extra “ask”, but it comes with a potential bonus this month if your advisory is in the lead.

General announcements
  • Appreciations!
    • Jeannette: Everyone who helped out at Turner Farm last week
    • Steve: Jeremiah, Maddy, Tyler, Kaileb: Orienteering module & having a great optimistic attitude
    • Nancy: Nyla for having a nice conversation
    • Christine: Dez & Nancy & Steve: Getting students out of the building and thinking outside of the box
    • Dez & Nancy: Tyler and Edwin being terrible dead bodies
    • Natalie: Staff for PD day on Friday and taking care of each other and ourselves
    • Jeanette: Grateful for Mini Blessings Group
  • Other announcements
    • Kitchen is closed because students have not been using it appropriately
      • Table was originally set up as space for students to eat lunch, but it became a place for distraction
      • Food was being played with - stuffed in cupboards, stacked so it would fall over, thrown down the hallway, etc.
      • Discuss options for re-opening in Advisory and share out by the end of the week
    • Interested in a summer volunteering opportunity that would look great on your resume? The BV Public Library is looking for someone to work for them with their Summer Reading program:
      • “The Library is looking to increase our Teen Services in many ways. One way is by having Teen Volunteers help with program support and development. We are starting this off with Summer Reading. We would need help with the Youth and possibly Teen programs. Registration, program setup and breakdown, crowd control for events, etc. Hours could just be extra hands for events up to a few hours a week.”
      • E-mail Kelly Nary ([email protected]) if you are interested
    • Conferences this week and next: talk up your accomplishments! Set goals for the rest of the semester with your advisor if you haven’t already
      • If your parent/guardian hasn’t scheduled a time yet, they can connect with your advisor or with Karen
    • Work Hard / Be Nice board: February awards
      • 17 entries from February - winner picked at random: Johnny! woohoo!
      • Add slips when you see students or staff working hard or being nice - board is in Christine’s office
    • March advisory competition: logins! Current standings:
      • Danny’s advisory: 74.6%
      • Robiny’s advisory: 58.7%
      • Steve’s advisory: 63.5%
      • Nancy’s advisory: 50.8%
  • Schedule notes

Conferences are coming up! Advisors are reaching out to parents to schedule conferences, but parents - feel free to also reach out to Karen to set up a time. Conferences will be in-person this time around, spread out over two weeks so that we can maintain distance in the school. Students, use this week to make sure your credit trackers are up to date (work with your advisor and teachers as needed to get points updated) and that you have clarified your goals for the rest of the semester.
