monday meetings

weekly meetings: making a "self paced, self placed" plan

MMM 26 April

We have two field trips this week! Science/History modules are traveling up to Leadville, College and Careers is visiting Adams State. These field trips are a great opportunity for a change of scenery and to make connections with different communities.

Our Advisory sportsing competition has been extended to take advantage of the weather (and account for a few snowy Mondays!). Next up: ultimate football!

General announcements
  • Appreciations!
    • Jeremiah: De’Quan for pushing through after getting frustrated
    • Danny: Jeremiah for sticking around to prepare for his probability DOK
    • Christine: Students for participating in focus group and giving valuable feedback
    • Robiny: Note-Catcher in the Rye group for being vulnerable and engaged
    • Steve: Tristan and Ani for jumping into the community so well
  • Community service
    • Talk to your advisor if you would want to do a community service module next week
  • Graduation
    • Will be able to use the regular Silvercliff graduation space this year
    • Need a senior photo and a baby photo from graduates
    • Underclassmen: if you need a tech credit and want to help put together the slideshow, talk to Christine
  • Student focus group feedback
    • Tardiness - idea to try new “late check-in” process
      • If you are late, fill out “late check-in” sheet from the stack by the front door and go back to class without disrupting the class
      • Karen will give your check-in sheet to your advisor, who will connect with you when they have time
      • Consequences will be determined by your advisor and you based on circumstances and frequency of tardiness
      • This is not an invitation to be late; we will try the system to see if it works better for students and staff. If it creates more problems, we’ll re-think by the end of the school year; if it is effective, we will officially adopt in the fall
    • Communication - if you have a conflict with a teacher, find a time to have a conversation with them about it. Use an “I” statement to express yourself and work with the teacher to find resolution. If you do not feel heard or struggle to find resolution, talk with Christine about it so she can help
    • Module DOK’s - students made the suggestion to offer more choices for module DOK’s for core classes. Staff are going to look into this for the fall; you might not see change right away in the next few weeks, but we have heard the suggestion and are going to see what it would look like to accommodate it next year!

These next two weeks will have odd schedules and content because of testing, but you will still be making progress! Test prep week will have a normal “bell” schedule, but you’ll rotate through classes halfway through the week. All the content in these modules is valuable, with or without a test - you will be reviewing key skills and critical thinking approaches. As you’ll see below, the work you complete in these modules will contribute towards core credits.

Next week for testing, every day will follow our typical Friday timing. You’ll take modules in the morning (and be pulled out here and there for tests) and will have optional activities to participate in after lunch. Check your e-mail for more details on that to come.

Enjoy the beautiful weather! We will get you all out of the building from time to time so we can enjoy the sunshine together. Including on Thursday at the Rockies game! Scroll down for logistics on that field trip - and check your inbox later today for a separate e-mail with important information about that trip, too.
