monday meetings

weekly meetings: making a "self paced, self placed" plan

MMM 28 September

Happy Monday! Thank you to all the students who came to the drive-in on Saturday to watch Beautiful Boy. We saw ten of our students there! Addiction and recover are tough subjects, but it so important to talk about them. We appreciate Chaffee County Public Health for making this movie (and concessions and Narcan) available to everyone.

We are heading into the final week of Discovery and Skills! Next week, everyone will be in regular modules, which will allow for more variety in offerings moving forwards. We have a full week, but there will still be some anomalies this week as Steve is out Monday – Wednesday (Jane is substituting) and Natalie is out Thursday and Friday. Christine will support students as needed in their absence – advisory issues for Steve and College & Careers issues for Natalie.

The colors are changing fast… take some time to enjoy the golden leaves while they are here!

General announcements
  • Appreciations!
    • Everyone who came out to Beautiful Boy on Saturday night.
      • (Available on Amazon Prime, so still a possibility for a Diversity Meeting)
    • Jeannette for taking the initiative to get our blinds up!
    • Henry would like to thank Luke for a fun weekend.
    • Jeanette would like to thank everyone who helped at Turner Farm.
    • Congrats to Grace for getting her license and advocating for herself with her teachers to be out while she finished it all up.
  • Other announcements
    • Print contracts after MMM: getting confusing printing them throughout the day, so we’re going to go back to processing them immediately after MMM since we’ve been pretty efficient with our time.
      • Print double sided before 1st block.
      • Karen has an inbox on her counter for her copy contracts
      • If you make changes later in the day, print a new copy for Karen
    • Steve is out (hunting) this week, so Jane is filling in for a few days.
      • Christine will be assisting with the advisory portion of the day.
    • Wear your mask: thank you for wearing them, but be aware that we have had cases in the district, so it’s very important that we keep them on all day (covering mouth and nose).
      • Quarantine means distance learning but also that we’re at home all day, not out on the town.
    • P/T Conferences coming up in the next few weeks - stay tuned for more details
      • Virtual because of COVID.
    • Please take the survey about device and internet availability at home in preparation for conferences and in case of remote learning.
    • Please be mindful of the building and grounds and pick up after yourselves.
      • Thank you for the efforts so far to keep the building tidy!
    • Fridays are normal school days (out at 3:10).
      • You must have all your work done and signed off in order to leave early. If you don’t have your work done, you are expected to stay all day even if it won’t make a difference with passing/failing contract - the most important work is completing modules so you can progress towards your credits
  • Schedule notes
    • Tuesday Presidential Debate and Thursday Commissioner forum
      • Presidential debate: Tues, Sept 29 @ 7:00 p.m. on CBS News live

Welcome back to another four day week! Check is this Friday. Students, focus on getting your work done. Set clear goals and check in with your teachers to ensure you are on track. If you missed the Silver Cliff field trip, you’ll need to make a plan to earn extra points so you aren’t struggling to meet minimum points.

And speaking of Silver Cliff, thank you to everyone who participated! It’s always great to get out of the building and take time to play.

If you are reading this e-mail from home, please remember to fill out your contract and check in with your advisor. Even at home, you can continue working!

General announcements

  • Appreciations!
    • Mason F for checking in with Steve about the Diversity meeting.
    • Jeremiah for grabbing Danny’s hat at Silver Cliff.
    • Gage for saying hi to Natalie when he passed her on the street.
    • Max, Logan, and everyone else who made a good effort to login and communicate last week when working independently out of the building.
  • Other announcements
    • Seniors: if you missed the planning meeting on Thursday, please check in with your advisor and make a plan this week (share with advisor and Christine).
    • If working from home, please remember to check in with both your teachers and advisor and update your contract to reflect that you’re out of the building.
      • You can write one email to all teachers and advisors to let everyone know what’s going on instead of sending separate emails to everyone.
      • Do send a quick email to your teachers if you turn something in on Classroom so they know there’s something to check.
      • Be here on Fridays to check in and go over your contract.
    • Diversity meeting opportunity this Saturday: movie at the drive-in (Beautiful Boy).
      • Points for next contract (#3).
    • Natalie is available for counseling sessions (points opportunity!) outside of school.
      • For details, check your email!
    • SATs Oct. 14th!
    • Logins: it’s still Contract #2; reminder that you don’t need to log in on Friday afternoons.
    • Sign up for meals by 8:10! Menus posted on bulletin board by English room.
  • Schedule notes
    • Thank you all for being here despite the confusion over the online learning announcement. Please make sure you have contact info for your advisor and teachers in case you do need to reach out for anything.
    • Another 4 day week! Be aware of what’s going on this week (no adulting), where you should be when, and how you can earn points for your contract.
    • Old Dogs: get your Work Experience and Personal Finance in before Service Learning so you can get into the Green faster, especially if you’re looking for independent work.

We are excited for our Silvercliff field trip Wednesday! These trips are a great opportunity to apply our core values: work, play, commit, connect, evolve. Wear good shoes, be prepared to be outside (sunscreen and water), and bring a suit if you want to swim! If you don’t want to swim, we have plenty of other activity options for the afternoon. Morning will be clubs and advisory team building activities.
Please bring a mask! We are giving out too many disposable masks. If you haven’t gotten a CCHS buff yet, ask Jeannette for one. And then just remember to bring it each day. :)
