Happy Monday! Here’s a little taste of how some people are handling quarantine. A museum director in England challenged other curators to a “curator battle” of creepy things last week - inviting them to share the creepiest object in their collection. And wow, did they deliver. Check it out! That mermaid… ?

Have you looked at the weather forecast for this week? Mid-70’s! Find some time to revel in the sun this week. We all need to be getting outside more.

We are going to mix things up next week with a virtual Spirit Week! Stay tuned for details this week (check your e-mail and Advisory Google Classroom) and be ready to get your spirit on next week! We’ll have priiiiiiizes!

How ‘bout that Colorado spring, eh? As the weather shifts, and shifts, and shifts, find some moments to get outside and bask in fresh air. Yes, stay safe and distanced, but don’t distance yourself from the sun when it appears! And while you are inside, look up #songsofcomfort on Instagram. Yo-Yo Ma (world famous cellist) started sharing music with that hashtag, and now there are several thousand videos of amateur and professional musicians sharing a little music with the world. It’s a great way to unwind!

You’ll see in the module section that teachers are offering new modules again this week. We want to continue keeping classes fresh, but please know that you can still focus on wrapping up a module you started in the last couple weeks if you aren’t done yet. It’s important to wrap up those loose ends while the info is still fresh.
  • Appreciations!
    • Megan - Community Service participation
    • Hannah - taking initiative with Senior English
    • Cassidy - participating in Mindfulness activities
    • Jared and Grace - great presentations for English
  • General notes
    • Fill out this Remote Learning Contract with your plan for this week
    • Check in with your advisor every day
    • Aim to work on two modules each week - use this week as a make-up week if needed. If you are caught up, do one of the modules we have offered the past couple weeks (see below)
    • Free meals
      • Breakfast/lunch through school district - pick up in front of Avery Parsons between 11:00 and 1:
      • Supper Support: dinner through community restaurants - contact us if you have a need
    • Graduation prep meeting for families
      • If you are a parent or guardian of one of our graduating seniors, look out for an invite (we will e-mail you) to our prep meeting! It will be this Thursday at 1:00. If you cannot make the live meeting, we will send out notes afterwards
    • CCHS remote learning: how does this time connect with long-term learning?
      • All learning at CCHS contributes towards earning a diploma - and credits are earned by completing work. During this time of remote learning, grades aren’t frozen, nor is work stalled. We are continuing to offer opportunities to learn and complete credit at the same rate as when we are in the building. In this way, remote learning doesn’t need to be that different from working in the building!
      • If students do not complete work while we are in remote learning mode, they are not penalized, but it slows down their rate of credit completion and could add more of a crunch to their graduation timeline. We are working with students who are close to graduation to problem solve completing credits so they aren’t impacted in the long term
      • Prioritize wrapping up open credits in the next month - advisors will be reaching out with some suggested goals

In this strange time of social distancing and staying at home, it’s fun to see how people are finding creative ways to connect. Check out John Krazynski’s Some Good News show for updates on what is going well in the world and watch some virtual choirs perform! In difficult times throughout history, people tend to find ways to stay uplifted, despite the challenges they are facing. This is one of those times! Look for simple ways to feel grounded and to connect with others - send e-mails, host a video chat, do some mindfulness, walk in nature.

And remember, we are here for you! Students, you know by now that your advisor is reaching out to you and your family regularly. The whole CCHS staff is thinking of you every day and missing you!
  • Appreciations!

  • Check your e-mail for weekly mindfulness activities from Karen! She will offer a few quick activities you can do to stay mindful. Added bonus: reply to her e-mails and get a coffee card!

We have successfully completed one week of remote learning! Thanks to students, families, and staff for your ongoing flexibility and patience as we work out the kinks. Governor Polis has extended remote learning requirements through April 30, so we will continue with our process! Remember that, although we aren’t setting minimum expectations for contracts, all the work completed during this time will contribute towards credits and graduation requirements. So keep at it!

Our family Q&A session is this afternoon - Monday, April 6, at 3:00. It’s on Zoom! Please check the e-mail we sent out for the link to join in.

If you need paper materials to work without the internet at home, please stop by Tuesday mornings each week from 8:00 to 10:00 to pick them up. Teachers will be providing one module each week with internet and non-internet options. If that time slot doesn’t work for you, you can arrange another pick-up time with your advisor - or we can mail you materials. Just let us know what works best for you!

Families, look out for an e-mail from your student’s advisor every Monday morning with an update on their progress from the previous week. We’ll let you know where they are with their work and how much engagement we have seen from them. We are reaching out daily through a mixture of posts in each student’s Advisory Classroom (on Google Classroom), texts, and e-mails. Please let us know if there are other ways we can support you and your students during this time.
  • Appreciations!
    • Jon - great job with your senior research presentation!
    • De'Quan and Edwin - shoutout for pioneering virtual math sessions with Danny

      • Join your Advisory Google Classroom (your advisor will invite you)
      • Morning: your advisor will post at 10:00 in the Advisory classroom. Comment with what you are working on to receive attendance
      • Afternoon: your advisor will host a short virtual circle up with Google Hangouts. Join the call with video or voice to check in and receive attendance
      • If you can’t check in either of these ways, work out an alternate method with your advisor - we can be flexible!
    • Aim to work on two modules each week
      • Fill out Remote Learning Contract form with what you plan to work on for the week
      • Ideally, complete modules by Friday of each week

      • We won’t set a minimum point value; our intention right now is to give you learning opportunities so you can work on as much as you want, but if you aren’t able to complete two modules each week, we will not penalize you!
    • Support and personal hygiene products needs
