monday meetings

weekly meetings: making a "self paced, self placed" plan

MMM 9 November

11/9/2020

The big news from CCHS this week is that Amanda is going to be leaving during Thanksgiving break. We are sorry to see her go - and we’ll keep working to provide a consistent experience for students. We have already been talking with community members who are interested in taking over the role for the remainder of the year and are confident that we’ll have a good solution in place so we can keep going after Thanksgiving.

We cannot control all the transitions that happen in our lives, but we can control how we respond to them. And right now, our focus is on loving our students, supporting our community, and moving forward together. Students, parents, guardians, or community members: if you have any questions or need to talk about this transition, please contact Christine. My door is open!

General announcements
  • Appreciations!
    • Nancy is very grateful for a certain student who wouldn’t want to be named for making great choices on Friday.
    • Pedro is super grateful for his renovated home! Kudos to Sawyer for doing such a stellar job with it.
    • Karen is grateful to everyone who helped while she was out last week, especially Nyla for helping Jeanette.
    • Thanks to Natalie from Dez for helping her with her first college app.
    • Danny appreciates Luke and his Music Theory module last week.
    • Madalynn would like to thank Jeremiah for helping her out lately.
    • Christine appreciates the group who hangs out at lunch and plays football or basketball in the parking lot, and for always being polite and respectful.
    • Natalie was happy to experience the drive-in Zoom play.
    • Luke and Sawyer for coming to the Board Meeting tonight at 6 to talk about creativity and modules!
  • Other announcements
    • Process IF the whole school has to go on quarantine or to remote mode (no immediate plans to do so!)
      • Communication and attendance:
        • Students log in as normal each morning (by 9:00) and afternoon (by 1:00)
        • Karen will call families each afternoon for students who have not made any contact
        • Monday: MMM video and notes will be posted and e-mailed at 8:00 a.m.
        • Students check e-mails and Google Sites regularly and communicate with advisor and teachers daily
      • Classwork schedule:
        • 9:00 a.m. each day, M-Th: Google Meet with advisory to review MMM and to fill out contract (Monday) and to check in and do advisory activities (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
        • 10:00 a.m. each day, M-Th: Google Meet for Block 1 (Monday will be for module overview, instructions, activities; subsequent days are for check-ins and activities as outlined by module)
        • 12:45 p.m. each day, M-Th: Google Meet for Block 2 (Monday will be for module overview, instructions, activities; subsequent days are for check-ins and activities as outlined by module)
        • Friday morning: students check in with teachers to wrap up modules and get contract signed off; when modules are finished, students contact advisor by text, e-mail, or phone call for virtual “CC” pass
      • Work expectations:
        • Students fill out their electronic contract, log in, and participate in advisory and class Google Meet sessions - same as in the building, just virtual. :)
        • Students complete two modules or three goals (for Green contract) each week - same as in the building.
    • If a single student has to quarantine, their advisor will check in with them about communication and work
    • Amanda will not be back after Thanksgiving. We will keep going and support each of you if you need anything. We are already looking for someone to fill the position, but we know it is particularly difficult for those advisees who will have had more advisors than fingers on one hand by the time they graduate. Please don’t hesitate to talk to Christine or Natalie if you need to vent or talk about it.
    • Meals: Spotlight meal changes! Sometimes you might not get what you want simply because of when we order, but we’ll do our best to get you what you order.
    • Make-up photos at the Ark Valley Photography Studio this week for those of you who missed school picture day.
  • Schedule notes
    • Next Week: Combo Math/Science iFly module next week but need to sign up TODAY.
      • Priority to students who need Math AND Science.
      • Going to be back late because it’s in Denver.
      • If need be, there will be a lottery of those signed up because it is limited to 14.
    • 5th Quarter Meeting @ BVHS 7:55 AM
      • Put it on your contract, so we know where you are!
    • ASVAB Dec. 9th - great for job interests! It’s not just a military test (and we do NOT report scores to military unless students specifically request it)
  • New contract: #6
    • Check: Friday, November 20
    • Minimum points: 77 (two full weeks! woohoo!)
