monday meetings

weekly meetings: making a "self paced, self placed" plan

20 January 2020

We start Monday Morning Meeting each week with a few minutes of mindfulness, and this morning, our focus was compassion in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. In order to be kind and show compassion to others, we must start with being kind and showing compassion to ourselves! Humans are quick to criticize, but it is kindness that allows us to solve problems, not criticism. So as you move through your week, take moments to find compassion around you. And have a good week!

General announcements
  • Appreciations!

  • ICAP block expectations
    • Get the teacher of record to initial your contract (list the actual class you’re working on, not just “ICAP”)
    • The teacher on duty for the ICAP support block will check in with you about weekly and daily goals
    • Points for your module will be signed off by the teacher of record - the teacher on duty for the block is there to help you problem solve and to help you stay accountable
    • You can earn participation points for contract if you are working consistently (signed-off by teacher on duty for the block)
  • Puzzle games in the principal’s office

MMM 13 January 2020

With the first full week of the semester, we will hit the ground running! As we head into Spring semester, you may notice a heavier shift towards helping seniors. This is true, to a degree. We will start working with students who intend to graduate - looking at remaining requirements, helping set goals, holding them accountable. But we'll also support underclassmen along the way, of course!

If you are planning to graduate in May, expect the speed to ramp up significantly. Most of you are not currently where you should be if you want a relaxing spring... but not to worry! Yet. Start shifting gears now to sort out your plans and wrap up loose ends. Ask questions, advocate for yourself as needed, and hold yourself accountable. The staff will encourage and support you each step of the way, but we will not  work harder than you will.

And on that note, here we go!

General announcements
  • ICAP blocks: each week, one teacher will offer an ICAP block (in addition to specific modules like Tech or Senior Seminar).
    • Anyone working on ICAP should plan to use this module; a teacher will be on hand to give support and guidance and to monitor progress. We expect having these blocks in our rotation will help students make consistent progress and get help, even when the teacher of record is unavailable!
  • Events this week
    • Senior meeting Monday during Practicum
      • Please join us if you plan to graduate in May - now is the time to look at the big picture and strategize your upcoming four months!
    • Mini Blessings bonus session Monday at 1:30
      • Help take down holiday light decorations and earn community service hours!
    • ASVAB Tuesday morning
      • 10th - 12th grade students will take this test. This test is administered by the Army, but it is a career strengths test and gives valuable information for any student; we will not release any scores or information to the military
      • This test serves as a measure to determine graduation readiness
      • An Army rep will return when scores are received to help students interpret the scores, which will help students recognize strengths and weaknesses and think through what careers might be a good fit
    • Ski Cooper Trip Sign-Up: The school trip will be on February 4 (Tuesday). Sign-up with Danny. Waivers will be sent by email for parents to fill-out ahead of time. All information must be turned in by January 21.

Welcome back! We're happy to see each one of you. Yes, it's a weird week: two days, and on a Thursday and Friday! The extra days off for students gave staff a few days to prep, which was welcome, but it also means we have something unprecedented ahead of us: a full day for all students on Friday! So let's roll with it, be productive, and have some fun along the way.

General announcements
  • ICAP scaffolding shift: we decided to spread out the ICAP requirements for each color of the road, placing a slightly higher emphasis on completing these credits in the Green to give students more autonomy and allow them to work on these credits with the goal-based contract, rather than through the points contracts. The breakdown will now be as follows:
    • White: Discovery and Technology
    • Red: Personal Finance
    • Yellow Work Experience
    • Green: Service Learning, College & Careers, Senior Seminar, Advisory
  • CMC enrollment-Paperwork needs to be turned in this week
  • If you leave your laptop out, expect to be asked to complete some work around the school to earn it back! This will both support the school’s cleanliness and hopefully encourage you to put your laptop away :)
  • Reminder about using the kitchen:
    • During class: get a pass from your teacher (give to Karen afterwards)
    • During lunch: sign up on the white board outside Christine’s office
  • If you are planning on graduating this May, please join us for a senior meeting Monday during ICAP`
  • Contract #9
    • Check: 17 January
    • Minimum points: 55
  • New cub rotation options:
    • Danny: Rocket League
    • Natalie: Jr. Optimists
    • Anna: Study Hall
    • Steve: Debate Club
    • Pete: Strength and Conditioning
  • Previous credit celebration!
    • High points: Edwin (94)
    • 100% logins: De’Quan
