monday meetings

weekly meetings: making a "self paced, self placed" plan

MMM 16 December 2019

Final week before break! Keep your heads down and use this week productively. Remember, Old Dogs, that this is your last week to catch up with ICAP credits to hold your current color on the Road to Graduation. Prioritize Tech if you don’t want to bump back down to the white, and prioritize Work Experience and Personal Finance if you don’t want to bump down to red.

Many of you know this already, but to make the announcement formal - sadly, Morgan is leaving us this week. She and her husband are moving back to Oklahoma because of a job shift for her husband. Morgan has been a great sport jumping into the English position this semester, and we’ll miss her! Please take a minute to thank Morgan this week! Anna Sitton, who has taught at CCHS in the past, has agreed to come on board for the beginning of next semester. We are grateful for her willingness to step in at the last moment! She’ll be a strong contributor, given that she already understands our systems, module approach, and Discovery.

General announcements
  • Appreciations!
    • Thanks to everyone for being good sports with NWEA testing last week! It was the smoothest testing session we’ve had in recent CCHS history
  • NWEA recap
    • If you hit the cut score or raised your score by 4+ points (beyond the cut score), talk to the subject teacher about adding those points to your module trackers
    • If your added points wrapped up a credit, fill out a credit summary this week! woohoo!
  • Lockers - please don’t go into other students’ lockers! Be thoughtful and considerate of each other
    • If you would like a lock for your locker, talk to Karen - we have 15 we can lend out to students
  • Semester wrap-up
    • Check out with your advisor this week (if you didn’t last week) about your module trackers and credit eval… wrap up credits as much as possible!

Welcome to December! The short weeks between Thanksgiving and winter break can be challenging - lots of activity going on, unpredictable weather, attempting to get back into a routine while knowing another break is coming. Let’s keep it light, warm, and productive! Focus on wrapping up open credits so you can earn those coveted certificates and move up the Road to Graduation.

General announcements
  • Appreciations!
    • Three cheers to Sawyer from Steve for taking care of Pedro over break!
    • Three cheers to students from Danny for graciously setting up and taking down the Thanksgiving meal!
    • Three cheers to Jeannette from Natalie for making an extra trip during the hectic Thanksgiving meal to pick up the gravy!
    • Three cheers to Johnny from Christine for being enthusiastic about volunteering with Adopt-a-Grandparent!
    • Three cheers to Jared R from Pete for saying thank you consistently for breakfast and lunch!
  • Events this week:
    • Twelfth Night field trip with Morgan’s module Tuesday, December 3
      • Leave CCHS promptly at 7:00 a.m. and return by 4:00 (weather permitting)
      • 10 students can go (priority to students in Morgan’s module)
    • CMC Accuplacer December 4 (Wednesday)
      • Starts at 1:00 in Salida - students must find their own transportation
  • Upcoming events:
    • Metro State University trip with Natalie on December 10
      • Depart from CCHS promptly at 7:00 a.m.
    • NWEA testing December 9 - 12
      • Earn points for meeting the benchmarks and/or increasing your score (if you missed the explanation at MMM, talk to your advisor about how it works)
  • Advisor check-ins: advisors will be posting sign-up sheets for a 15-20 minute check-in before cold winter holiday break. Keep a lookout and sign up
    • Update your open module trackers - or, if you are missing one, get a replacement from your core teachers
    • Focus on finishing open credits before break
    • Check in on your Road to Graduation status
    • Make a plan for how to complete credits you need in line with your expected graduation date; how/when you complete credits will likely change, but it helps to have a plan
  • Credit evaluations: all students’ credit evals have been updated to the most current format for consistency’s sake. This doesn’t change what you have earned, it just creates consistency with how credits are organized
    • Your advisor will give you your updated credit eval when you check in before cold winter holiday break

    What are MMMM?

At the start of each week, the whole school gets together for a Monday Morning Meeting. Here, staff give general announcements, and teachers present their modules for the week. After the meeting, students create contracts, signing up for the modules they will take and other activities they will participate in.
