General announcements
  • contract #6; check is November 20
    • early release Wednesday
    • 60 point contract
  • electives - please participate! if it’s difficult to manage, we’ll have to change the plan
  • recycling bins are now more centrally located in the Commons: please use them!
  • watch your language - it doesn’t reflect well on CCHS
  • it’s embarrassing when CCHS students are smoking in front of elementary school kids! be respectful and use discretion if you must smoke
  • we’re up this year for earning credits from this point last year 
  • on check week, work is due at 12:00 on Fridays
    • miss the cut-off? the points will still go towards credit but not for contract
  • don’t eat food in the kitchen unless it’s marked as up for grabs - please ask before eating!
  • if you go on Sabbatical, you need to wait for re-entry meetings on Friday
    • thanks to the students who are helping lead those meetings
  • Veterans Day on Wednesday - Diversity Meeting Wednesday
  • Junior Optimist Club: meeting tomorrow during Elective
  • laptops: cart is closed today because laptops are not being taken care of
    • please sign out laptops, return them, and plug them in!
    • seniors have priority for desktops

    • AM: Debate, week 1: research and organization
      • this is a two-week module; if you sign up today, be ready to take it again next week (for the actual debate)
      • option for ten extra points! if you write an essay on top of doing the debate
    • PM: Research (also, talk to Christine if you want to do Independent R&W)
    • Word of the Week: sluggard
    • Independent R&W changes: you’ll now get points for reading as well as the write-ups; points are determined by a book’s Lexile score (determined by complexity)- so finishing a book will now be worth between 40 and 60 points instead of 25!
  • Math

  • Science
    • no Science this week - Rachel is still out, will be back next week
      • if you only need Science, talk to Mike
  • Social Studies
    • AM: Current Events with the school’s periodicals (New Yorker, Time, Pueblo Chieftain, Christian Science Monitor, The Week, Field and Stream, etc.)
    • PM: Causes of World War I

    • PLACE - working with public lands agencies to get outside
    • Mostly in the spring, but one activity between Thanksgiving 
      • shadow rangers
      • trail work with Forest Service
      • climbing in conjunction with Patagonia
      • ecological restoration
    • Wild Connections - inventoried/explored public lands along Ark River
      • leading a hike around Cotopaxi after Thanksgiving
    • Interested? talk to Juli before Winter Break
      • you don’t have to complete every activity, but if you do, you get a stipend
      • you can also get Science credit (probably points for each activity or a whole credit for all 8)
  • Local scholarships - there are a few new scholarships on the table
  • NOT meeting Tuesday during elective

  • Smart Recovery - sometime this week, but schedule for this week will be determined
  • Immunization clinic tomorrow at high school - serving uninsured, underinsured… check flyer on notice board for more info
 
Community Service/Service Learning
  • Mini Blessings - 10:30 and 1:00 most days
    • Please help! This is an important program to maintain - CCHS students are invaluable supports for younger students who go

    What are MMMM?

    At the start of each week, the whole school gets together for a Monday Morning Meeting. Here, staff give general announcements, and teachers present their modules for the week. After the meeting, students create contracts, signing up for the modules they will take and other activities they will participate in.
