Spring is here! We have a few weeks to go before summer break finally hits. Seniors, this is your final week to wrap up work! Communicate with the staff as much as you can so we stay on the same page. You can each get this done - it just takes some hard work. But it’s worth it! Underclassmen, check in with your advisor about what work to focus on to finish the year strong. Focus on wrapping up open credits!

Parents and guardians, we will be having family Zoom chats every Tuesday afternoon for the next few weeks so you can check in with us if you need to. You have been hearing from advisors regularly, but we want to make ourselves as available to you as possible as we wrap up this bizarre spring! Join us from 2:30 to 3:00 to ask any questions you have about the semester, classes, or transitioning to next year. Check your e-mail for the link.

If you need a little break from your work, check out this guy rapping Dr. Seuss books! We’ll give English points to anyone who can match him. :)

• Remote learning reminders
  • Check in with your advisor every day
    • Join your Advisory Google Classroom (your advisor will invite you)
    • Morning: your advisor will post at 10:00 in the Advisory classroom. Comment with what you are working on to receive attendance
    • Afternoon: your advisor will host a short virtual circle up with Google Hangouts. Join the call with video or voice to check in and receive attendance
    • If you can’t check in either of these ways, work out an alternate method with your advisor - we can be flexible!
  • Aim to work on two modules each week
    • Fill out Remote Learning Contract form with what you plan to work on for the week
    • Ideally, complete modules by Friday of each week
    • Join the Google Classrooms for the modules you are taking - codes are below
    • E-mail the teacher if you’re working on a module that doesn’t have a Classroom (like Work Experience or College and Careers) to confirm what you need to do for the module
    • If you need to pick up any paper materials, please stop by school on Tuesday between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. (or contact your advisor to arrange another pick-up time)
  • Contract expectations
    • Contracts will be used for goal setting and to let teachers know who is working on their modules. Fill out the form (a link will be sent out each week) to establish what you intend to work on for the week
    • We won’t set a minimum point value; our intention right now is to give you learning opportunities so you can work on as much as you want, but if you aren’t able to complete two modules each week, we will not penalize you!
  • Support and personal hygiene products needs
    • What kind of social/emotional support do you need during this time? Phone calls? Friendly texts? Weekly check-ins?
    • Do you need any personal hygiene products? - deodorant, shampoo, etc.
    • Please fill out this quick survey to help us help you!
  • Free meals
    • Breakfast/lunch through school district - pick up in front of Avery Parsons between 11:00 and 1:
    • Dinner through community restaurants - contact us if you have a need (limited spaces available)
  • Temporary library card
    • If you don’t have a card for the Public Library but would like one, call the library - they can set you up! 719-395-8700 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday

 Community Service

• Write a letter to Sunrise Manor to let our grandparents know we are thinking of them. Email the letter to [email protected], and she will send them to Sunrise Manor.
• Look through the causes at Dosomething.org and pick your own community service idea. Email Jeannette the details so she can keep track of your hours.
• New State of Mind - Host a video chat with your friends to check in on how they are doing. Email Jeannette a screenshot for your hours.
• Everyday Superheroes - Make a card celebrating someone who does super things in your community. Send to Jeannette to distribute.
• Shower Songs - Make a 5 minute playlist to help friends take shorter showers in an effort to conserve a natural resource. Email Jeannette your playlist.
• (Not) The Same Old Story - One-on-one interactions with older people have been shown to fight isolation and cheer them up. Write the beginning of a story and mail it to a senior who lives far away. Ask them to continue the story and send it back to you to finish.  Email to Jeannette first to pass on to our seniors.
• Make face masks for your family or community.  There are several sew or no sew patterns online.  Send Jeannette a picture for credit.
• Would You Rather - Help friends take control of their personal finances.
• Don't Be a Sucker - Unplug unused electronics to save energy and money.
• Make dog toys out of old  t-shirts - Make dog toys to donate to Ark Valley Humane Society. Communicate with Jeannette to make arrangements for her to pick them up and deliver them.  There are several different ideas to make dog toys from items you have around the house, just Google “how to make dog toys” for more options.

CCHS Virtual Spirit Week!

Join in the fun May 4 - 8 to show your school spirit and be entered to win prizes!

Here’s how it works:

• Take a photo of yourself doing any of the bullet points below and send it to Christine by text (314-412-5611) or e-mail ([email protected]) by 4:00 p.m. each day
  • Please keep photos and activities school appropriate!
  • We’ll post some of your photos on our social media accounts 
• Your name will be entered in our prize bucket for each one you do! (for example, if on Monday you take a photo of yourself dressed up like a Star Wars character while building Star Wars LEGOs and watching a Star Wars movie, your name will be entered THREE times!)
• Prizes include local store gift certificates and CCHS gear!
